Review

A romantic comedy that somehow looses its comedy and romance Employee of the Month stars gorgeous singer Jessica Simpson and Dane Cook. It tells the romance of minimum wage workers box boy Zack and his sexy co-worker, cashier Amy who work at a mega-store. Competing against Zack for both the coveted title of Employee of the month and Amy's affections is the store's head cashier, Vince aka "the fastest hands in the Southwest". Zack and Amy bond over their physical idiosyncrasies while Vince and his faithful sidekick bicker throughout the film adding to the general irritation one feels with this excuse for a romantic comedy.

The movie is more a documentation of the trials and tribunals of staff and boss alike in the mega-marts that have become the hallmark of today’s consumerist society. The only way you can enjoy the movie is if you are a fan of Jessica or Dane and are going for ogling alone its money well spent. Otherwise the slacking tendencies and the dragging tale can put you to sleep.

Director Coolidge isn’t able to get an ounce of acting out of any of the cast and you feel that both the actors and their characters in the film have conspired and decided not to do their job. A movie whose saving grace is its value as eye candy, it’ll be better to see the film on cable when it comes rather than visiting the cinema. But it’s an ideal outing if you don’t want to catch up on sleep or just revel in the theatre atmosphere.
