"The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning," is a prequel to a remake of a 1974 horror flick that had inspired countless copies and sequels. Given the popularity of blood and gore and the chainsaw wielding villain the trend is not a dying one and a surefire money spinner whatever critics say.

The formula for The Beginning is the same as all other chainsaw and teenage horror flicks like ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ and Scream. Four gorgeous ‘youths’ venture into Texas and become the target of a clan of psychopathic cannibalistic hillbillies. The sick twist is that while the hottie victims ostensibly function as an audience surrogate, the movie's true sympathies lies with the hillbillies the Hewitts. The film tries to explain the chainsaw legend and its evolution. It seeks answers for classic chainsaw faqs like: Where did Leatherface get his flesh mask, how did he come to select his signature power tool? What's the back story of Officer Hoyt (R. Lee Ermey), and why does he eat people?

But in true gore tradition the movie focuses on feeding the bloodlust of its audience with brutal attacks. It proves that despite the multitude there can never be enough chainsaw murder stories from teas to satisfy the thirst for blood guts and gore (Yuck!)
